Silex Microsystems reveals new MEMS production facility

Kista, Sweden, June 25, 2003 – Silex Microsystems AB, a provider of micromechanical systems for the life science and telecommunications industries and one of the fastest growing companies in the MEMS industry, announced that it is investing in a new MEMS production facility in Järfälla, Sweden. This announcement strategically follows the closing of the company’s second round of financing which attracted 7.7 million Euro (MSEK 70) from CapMan funds (Swedestart Tech, Swedestart Life, and CapMan VII) and Startupfactory.

Silex Microsystems has signed a lease contract with Zarlink Semiconductor encompassing 450 m² of clean room area and 500 m² of office space within Zarlink’s premises in Järfälla northwest of Stockholm. Silex Microsystems is inserting a full 6” wafer MEMS production line in an existing state of the art clean room, and it is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year. The end capacity will be hundred thousand 6” wafers per year, which will be enough to take the company well into 2007. The new facility is located just northwest of Kista were the company currently is sited.

“Our decision to build this new production facility is in response to the demand from our customers for increased production capacity. It will make Silex Microsystems a more competitive entity for customized MEMS manufacturing, both for existing and new customers.” says Jan Nerdal CEO of Silex Microsystems.
